Get Used to the Waiting

As I get older, I realize I don’t have a lot of patience for things like WAITING anymore. Especially when it involves a child. Our LID is 1/27/06, and the wait is currently 10-14 months from our LID date. Some are projecting this wait to increase. Supply & demand.
This year officially marks the 10 year anniversary of Peter & I working on having a family. Of course we love our dear, dear boy Sean more than life itself, so I don’t mean to sound ungrateful. It was quite a trial to bring him into the world, so adopting should be a piece of cake, right? As I told our social worker, with all the fertility issues and heartbreak in this quest, a paperchase & waiting for a referral is a piece of cake. YET – our wait seems to be stretching out further & further as the days go by, & I get more discouraged. I know, of course, that it’ll be worth the wait. That the “right” baby girl is out there, and these things can’t be rushed. STILL. I’ve joined a few on-line groups that are dealing with the exact same issues Peter & I are. This helps a lot to know there are others just as frustrated by the wait. They’re a very encouraging/supporting group of people, so reading their posts always cheers me up.

So, what do I do the combat the wait?

1) Read other people’s blogs:
Especially those who have already come home from China with their child. Gives me a good perspective on the process & hope!

2) Buy baby clothes:
Yes, I know this isn’t necessarily the smartest move considering we don’t know the size of our baby yet, but I can always give anything that doesn’t fit to the orphanage. There are size charts out there that give average sizes/weights & measurements of children at Gotcha Day, so I shouldn’t be too far off on sizing.

3) Plan baby room:
We’re going to keep the colors of the room from when we painted for our last baby we lost. They’re scary bright yellow & green, but we’re too lazy to repaint 🙂 & we’ve gotten used to the colors. We can incorporate more feminine elements as well to counter. (Our poor social worker came into the room & visibly jumped at seeing the colors. We forgot to warn her…& yet, she still approved us!)

4) Crochet blanckets & hats for Sean and the new baby.

5) Make another pathetic attempt at quilting:
Did I mention I wasn’t patient? That extends to reading instructions/patterns. I’d prefer to learn a few techniques & tips, then design my own. I have some lovely Minkee fabric just waiting to be used…

6) Scrapbooking & card making:
This has become my latest obsession. Shopping trips to Michaels & Ever After Too Scrapbooks have become rather common for me. Fortunately I have plenty of birthdays & other occasions to make cards. I need to not get too carried away at buying stuff for this hobby. We have NO space to store stuff, so I need to use it or lose it!
