Hi from Snowy Denver!
It snowed this morning here in Denver so we’re are all excited. Even though there’s only about a half-inch right now, the boy (pictured left) wants to spend all day out in it so we have to keep dragging him back in and getting him warmed up every so often. It’s about 22 degrees out there right now.
Mom and Dad – does this remind you of Chicago at all? Don’t you miss it? No? Oh. OK.
We had a really nice Thanksgiving here the other day, just the four of us. We had a LOT to give thanks for this year so it was nice spending time thinking about that. The boy told us he’s thankful for Everything we have. I am thankful for my family, both near and far. This year’s holiday wasn’t as nice as in the past but we made the best of it. We’ll have to schedule things better next year so we can all get together. We want to invite everyone to our house for Christmas next year.
Speaking of which, we should be in our new house just before Christmas this year. We’ve started packing and planning the move. The house is going to need just a bit of painting before we move in and then it’s going to be all warm-toes-by-the-fire and presents-stacked-to-the-roof on Christmas day.
We all hope your holidays are as warm and you have a Merry Merry.
Playing nice
This is what the boy calls playing nice:
Can you pass this quiz?
So, you think you know your American history, eh? When a group called the Intercollegiate Studies Institute asked a series of 33 questions on that topic to a selection of people, more than the 71% of Americans failed (got 59% or less correct). I just took the test online and got a decent score – 81% – but I think I should have done better. A few of the questions are poorly worded, IMO, but the majority should be painfully easy to get right. At least in my ideal America, that is.
Take the quiz yourself and find out how much you know about American civics and related topics. Don’t cheat and look up the answers online as you go through the quiz! You get your score after you hit submit at the bottom of the page.
Also, post your results in the comments here, if you don’t mind.

Our first Colorado snow!
Halloween is for kids
Halloween this year was just not the same as in years past. The boy is growing up so fast. It made me so nostalgic for years gone by that I put together this photo album of the last few years worth of pictures.
This being our first year away from family & friends, way out here in the wilds of Colorado, we had to make do as far as trick-or-treating went. We drove to a nice neighborhood near our apartments and walked from house to house with the kids. This was our girl’s first Halloween so everything was exciting and new. She LOVED putting on her girly bumble-bee costume, all frilly and colorful. The boy chose a scary screaming bloody masked costume this year but I think he regretted it a bit. Too scary and a bit too messy it turned out. They had fun anyway.
We hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween.
Another fun translation error
OK, this article explains what’s wrong with this sign:
The English is clear enough but the Welsh reads “I am not in the office at the moment. Please send any work to be translated.”
At least, this isn’t just a Chinese problem.
